Committee on Pensions and Benefits (CPB)
Description (according to the Standing Rules)
This Committee is to consider matters relating to its title by developing a working knowledge of the various components of the Benefits Plan of the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (USA) and of the Presbytery’s Shared Pool Medical Wrap-Around Plan and it is to serve as a source of information, support, and advocacy to the members of the Plans and their dependents.
This Committee also shares with Plan members information on expanding services and resources available through the Board of Pensions. In addition, it submits proposals to the Board of Pensions (BofP) for funding of Presbytery-wide training events in areas targeted by the BofP through its own requests for proposals.
MEMBERSHIP: This committee is to consist of six (6) members, three ministers and three elders, divided into three classes, one class of which is to be elected annually. Currently, there are four members of this Committee, three clergy and one elder. The two members of the Class of 2008, both clergy, are eligible for re-election to serve in the Class of 2011 and there is a vacancy, each, in the Classes of 2009 and 2010 for, preferably, elders. Knowledge and/or experience in the health fields and/or insurance would be especially useful in candidates for membership.
MEETINGS: This Committee meets about once every two months at the Presbytery office during the day. Subsequent meetings are either scheduled at the conclusion of a meeting or through communication to members by the Chair. Meetings usually last from one to two hours.
