DISCIPLESHIP ROUNDTABLE – Minutes May 22, 2012
Present: Gilda Bonnemere, Dorothy VanderWerf, Janet Macgregor-Williams, Patricia Pastas, Bruce Tischler.
Absent: David Peng, Gareth Icenogle.
Opening Prayer was given by Gilda Bonnemere.
Report from Bruce about what is going on in the Presbytery.
Patterson council is interested in doing training for Deacons and Elders and is looking for some funding support to do this in June.
- Dorothy VanderWerf and Patricia Pasta would be willing to do deacon training.
- Guillermo Lopez-Acosta work with elder training.
- Greg Keosian do training for clerks.
There is a possibility of seeing this as a draft and then running a Presbytery elder and deacons training in the late fall or winter. This could be offered in different regions of the presbytery. Local church could handle refreshments, registration, arrangements and presenters rotate from location to location. Look at a way to include the Korean congregation. Gilda will serve as co-ordinator for putting this together. Other possible locations: Bergen county, Hudson county, Upper Passaic county.
Budget:
Johnsonburg Center 25,000 $6,250
Camps and Conferences 3,500 1,500 (Colombia trip in Nov. Patria & Guiermo)
Discipleship Training 3,500 1,105 (point training, Sheri Riley Youth training)
Mission Trips 4,000
Bills and Overtures: Janet is willing to continue to be our representative to them.
Nominating Committee is open to suggestions to help fill in the vacancies on the roundtable. Social Justice is one of our gaps. Catherine Cunningham and Fran Theisen are possibilities. We could also use a male presence.
We have 6 youth and 2 chaperones going on the mission trip, representing two churches.
Sherrie Rilley is willing to co-ordinate the youth triennium for 2013. The age range is those entering 9th grade through those graduating from 12th grade. The dates are July 16-20, 2013 and cost is: $469 per person.
Lilia Ramirez—Latino Ministry Proposal:
They are looking to form an immigration task force. There is a need for awareness of the issue and education and multicultural sensitivity.
One way we can support them is to use request 10 minutes on the presbytery docket for June.
Lilia also requested funding to attend the Evangelism Conference. The total cost is $801. Moved, second, and passed that we cover transportation (at $370) for her to attend. Bruce will work on getting support from Multicultural for the rest of it.
Christian Ed did a workshop and they meet bi-monthly. Florence and Dorothy are willing to do teacher training.
Patricia Pastas and Guillermo Lopez-Acosta are going on a mission trip to Columbia and are excited to return and share with people in Columbia after 12 years in this country. When they come back they look forward to sharing with us about their experience.
Next meeting to be determined Gilda will send out email.
Meeting closed in prayer by Patricia.
