Highlights of the Stated Meeting, September 20, 2011

 

The meeting was hosted by the Trinity PC in Paramus, home of the Moderator, Rev. Dr. Samuel Stone. Elder Sophie Stone, and the team of elders and volunteers, warmly welcomed the Presbytery members and served a delicious Chinese dinner. The Children’s Gospel Dancers performed an expressive dance during worship and Rev. Stone gave an inspiring sermon entitled: “Happiness Under Attack.”

 

 The Presbytery approved the minutes of June 21, 2011 and the consent agenda.


 

The Presbytery:

-           Had a time of prayer and remembrance for those on the Elder Necrology list.

-           Listened to the stories about the aftermath from Irene. Rev. Tischler also informed the members about the formation of a Response team, which will coordinate the rebuilding efforts with the PDA.

-           Discussed for first reading a new policy proposed by the COM regarding “Best Practices ...following the conclusion of a Pastoral Relationship.”

-           Approved and validated the ministry of Rev. Hye Jin Hwang, who will be serving the Presbyterian Church of New Jersey in Oakland.

During the “Moment for Missions,” Rev. Kimberly Chastain, on behalf of her son Ben, presented a report about “Haiti: the people, the place and the problems..”  Rev. Chastain, expressed her gratitude to the Presbytery Discipleship Roundtable for contributing towards this mission trip, which helped us all to lend a hand and gain a new perspective about Haiti.
