A support group has been formed in Wayne Presbyterian Church, to aid those whom are affected by domestic abuse. The group plans on meeting on a monthly basis and will be open to anyone who has questions about domestic violence or domestic abuse. Anyone, whether or not they are abuse survivors, for example, parents,siblings friends or whomever is affected by this abuse is welcome to come and be with us.
We hope to be able to provide those affected by domestic violence a safe haven to discuss their concerns and explore possible options and solutions. We also hope that by being a part of this support group, everyone can find a place to get advice for themselves and find a place to vent or obtain information to help their loved one.
In order to provide a safe environment the meetings are strictly CONFIDENTIAL !!
Domestic abuse is on the increase and can impact many individuals. While most victims are women of all ethnic groups it may also impact men and includes dating abuse in teenage circles. It also impacts individuals at all income levels and is not limited to those in lower levels.
Topics such as the Cycle of Violence, Power and Control in Dating, Available Resources, Safety Plans, and Actual Experiences of Others will be part of the program.
While Alcoholics Anonymous is recognized as a group that available to to help those addicted to alcohol abuse it is hoped that this support group will provide help for those involved with abusive relationships.
Meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month beginning in October and will be held at the Grace United Presbyterian Church at 981 Preakness Avenue, Wayne, New Jersey. Meetings will be held at 7:00pm
with the first meeting scheduled for October 3rd.
